An offer quotes salary before income tax, so less than that reaches the card. Since 2025 the Russian rate is no longer flat. It depends on how much a person has earned since January. Until that sum passes 2.4M ₽, the employer withholds 13%. Everything earned above it is taxed at a higher rate. On a salary of 300 000 ₽ a month, eight months add up to 2.4M ₽ — exactly the threshold. So it is crossed at the end of August, and from September take-home drops by 6 000 ₽ with nothing in the contract having changed. The calculator below runs that progression month by month.
Why take-home pay drops mid-year
The rate is set by earnings accumulated since January. Each month the tax is recomputed on the whole year-to-date sum and the employer withholds the difference. So in the month earnings cross into the next bracket, less money arrives. It stays that way until the end of the year.
The higher rate applies only to the excess, never to the whole salary. On a salary of 300 000 ₽ a month before tax, 261 000 ₽ lands from January to August and 255 000 ₽ from September onwards. Only the 1.2M ₽ earned between September and December is taxed at the higher rate. Over the whole year, tax takes 13.67% of the salary.
| Earnings since January | Rate |
|---|---|
| up to 2.4M ₽ | 13% |
| 2.4M – 5M ₽ | 15% |
| 5M – 20M ₽ | 18% |
| 20M – 50M ₽ | 20% |
| above 50M ₽ | 22% |
Uplifts for work in a harsh climate — the regional coefficient and the northern uplift — are taxed separately from the base salary. They run on a scale of their own. It stays at 13% up to 5M ₽, even when the main salary is already taxed at 18%. So more money reaches the card than if the whole income were counted as one sum.
